A Random Discovery of Compassion
Two Young Woman Making Bold Strides to Help Others!
Spying on this event in process at Mall of NH |
I had to investigate after seeing girls giggling, squealing, hugging and crying outside the massive trailer. Teenage girls came one by one, helped by teenagers and folks from Claire's. I felt bad for sitting in my car and spying this 'event' that clearly wasn't open to the public, but for a special chosen few. I was wondering who was offered this opportunity to 'shop' in this trailer. The excitement was palatable!
I noticed ONE familiar face at this event. I was a good 45 minutes from home, so I didn't pay much attention until I dug a little deeper.
As a blogger I have discovered the keen joy of becoming a bit of a super sleuth! Thank goodness for the amazing internet, I'm able to Google my way to answers.
AND I FOUND A TREASURE TROVE OF INFO on this AMAZING program!
THREADS FOR TEENS ON TOUR
From the Website!
Threads for Teens is a clothing boutique located in Windsor, CA. We provide clothing to girls who are in foster care, group homes, and extreme situations of poverty. This summer, 2013, we are taking Threads for Teens to the road with our mobile boutique to outfit 1000 girls in a brand-new outfit! Keep checking back to see our journey chronicled.
Big Kudos to Allyson Ahlstrom, the young woman who is behind this cause!
Great photo from their Facebook Page! |
Here is the ginormous trailer from the website! Isn't it COOL?! Photo creds to their website! |
As you can imagine, I was excited to have stumbled on this fantastic initiative. Growing up, I was taught the value of giving back as much as you take. I am ALWAYS asking my girls to purge their closets and donate their clothes. It's just the right thing to do, and I know I am NOT alone in this!
SO, WHO WAS THE FAMILIAR FACE I SAW?
My super sleuthing continued and wanted to see if the familiar face I saw at the event was from my local community and I was RIGHT!

Another AMAZING organization to provide much needed resources to those in need by another YOUNG WOMAN, Lauren Sundstrom from Newburyport, Mass!
From their website:
"Eighteen year old student, Lauren Sundstrom, traveled to Ghana in June 2011, to volunteer with orphaned and underprivileged children. Lauren worked with students specifically at public schools in the Woe-Keta School District, and at the New Seed International Orphanage, teaching a variety of subjects to kindergarten, second, fifth and sixth grade classrooms.
Many children in Ghana are unable to receive an education, but those children fortunate enough to attend school face adversity in learning, as their classrooms often lack desks, books or even educators. Despite such challenges, schooling is still considered to be a privilege for young Ghanaians, as it represents their only hope for a brighter future.
Upon returning home, Lauren established Clothes for Hope, Inc., a non profit organization designed to raise money to provide educational assistance and materials to children and families in need both locally and globally, through an annual public clothing sale of discounted designer merchandise."

The following blog post connected all the dots for me!
