Big Apple Circus Comes to Boston
Great family event in Boston
Yes, that's right - the Big Apple Circus is in Boston from March 26th to May 12th and we just happened to be in the city on April 17th, and scooped up 3 tickets to the show.
TIP - You can purchase tickets online or at the big top - we were able to purchase ours at the Box Office onsite and got great seats!
TIP - Children under 3 are free if they sit on the lap of an adult.
We found ourselves in Boston less than 48 hours after the marathon tragedy. The city was bustling with people - we saw office workers wearing running shirts, Boston Marathon sweatshirts and everyone seemed to have on brightly colored running shoes - strangers united.
On the way into the city the restaurant signs and billboards read messages of hope, prayer and support for all those effected - my favorite was "Boston is not a city, it is a family".
As the mom of an emerging reader there were a lot of questions in the car about the signs she read and what meaning they had.
There were more questions when we arrived at the big top - located in Government Center - with local, regional and state police present along with the National Guard and members of Special Operations - it was quite the site - a welcome one though.

We even stopped and offered to get cold water or drinks for several of the officers we spoke with - all very friendly and greeted us with a nice hello, a good afternoon or a smile!
Now back to the Big Apple Circus! What a show! It is broken into 2 parts and lasts for 2 hours - with a 20 minute intermission - the acts were quick moving and professional - nothing was too long or drawn out - the show moved along quickly and the clowns were great! Check out the cast and creative here!
The title of the show is Legendarium - a look back at the history of circus and its roots 200 years ago!
With scenes from the Brooklyn Bridge, Broadway, Erie Canal and Central Park - the scenery and costumes brought your back in time.
The final act was performed by the Dalian Acrobatic Troupe - on bikes!
"The all-female Dalian Acrobatic Troupe of China was established in 1951. Through half a century of performing acts it has formed its own artistic style."
And what a style it is!
There was a wonderful dog performance as well - and after the performance it was announced by the ring master, John Kennedy Kane, that all the dogs in the performance were rescues!
Another act that caught my eye was by Daniel Cyr, the originator of the roue Cyr (Cyr Wheel). This is a single 'wheel' that he spins, tips and twists within - amazing!
TIP - At the end of the performance there are Big Apple Circus team members at the exit handing out parking validation tickets - a little savings that makes a big difference!
It was a wonderful trip to the circus and I can honestly say that I forgot for a brief 2 hours what was happening in the world outside the tent - the performances, the laughter and all the clapping was a wonderful reprieve from the current events and a wonderful memory of spending an afternoon with my family.
Thank you for letting me share.
