Veterans Day 2013

2013 Halloween Parade
"Your son just made me cry."
It was just after the school Halloween parade that a friend of mine from high school ran over to me - she had tears in her eyes.

We have lost so many friends and family over the past year, I was suddenly scared to hear what she had to say.
She said nothing at first just hugged me - I was totally caught off guard.
She slowly pulled away and said, "Your son just made me cry." I was trying to process this when she continued.
"We brought my grandfather (Pepere) to the Halloween parade to see the kids, he is wearing his WWII Veteran's hat. Your son walked right out of the parade and over to him. He shook his hand and thanked him for his service to our country."
Now it was my turn - my eyes just filled up.
She then said, "My grandfather has Alzheimer's, but he knew exactly what you son said and he smiled. You have a beautiful son."
We always talk to our children about thanking our veterans, not only on Veteran's Day but everyday and I couldn't be prouder of our son for 'walking the walk' and showing his respect to a member of the Greatest Generation.
Please take time today to say thank you to a veteran, an active service member, or their families, they sacrifice everyday for us.
On behalf of Mom's Lifesavers, a great big thank you to all the men and women who have served our country, yesterday, today and tomorrow!
Pepere served aboard the USS Wasp
Our son with his Great-Grandpa who served in WWII as a SeaBee
