You Can Make It Too - Going Batty T-Shirt!

Make a Glittery Bat Shirt - Easy and Affordable Crafting!

Seasonal shirts that are all 'blinged' out can get pricey - this craft comes together quickly and is a perfect craft to make with your young fashionista! 

Here is what you need to get started:

• Black or dark colored t-shirt*
• Pack of Foil Bat Cutouts* - or any cutout that will block the paint will work
• Creepy Cloth*
• Silver Glitter Soft Fabric Spray Paint - we found this Simply Spray version at Michael's Crafts - with our coupon it was under $3
• Work area, including a larger work surface/drop cloth to 'catch' any extra paint
• Cardboard or paper for the inside of the shirt, to keep the paint from 'bleeding' through

*The shirt, bats and creepy cloth were all purchased at DollarTree

To Bling The Bat Eyes Out:

• Iron On Bling - We used Horizon Iron On Rhinestones for the bat eyes - this was the first time I tried these - they went on great!
• Iron, ironing board or heat resistant surface
• Scissors

1.  First layout your t-shirt. It is best to work with a pre-washed shirt to remove any sizing in the fabric and to keep the paint color from fading on the first wash.
2. Insert scrap paper or a piece of cardboard into the shirt (to keep the paint from 'bleeding' to the back of the shirt)
3. Spread out the creepy cloth onto the shirt (we draped ours to one side) We ended up cutting the cloth into smaller pieces because it was surprisingly large
4. Next, place your bat cutouts on top of the cloth. The cutouts will 'collect' the paint, leaving the shirt color underneath, acting as a reverse stencil.
5. Next get to spraying! Spray away - remember a little goes a long way with the spray paint TIP - take a practice spray on some scrap paper to set a sense of how much paint will come out and how quickly
6. Allow the shirt to dry completely - we kept ours laying flat overnight - it was perfectly dry by morning!
7. Remove cutouts and creepy cloth - your shirt is ready!

Adding 'Bling'

I wanted to be able to add some sequins or rhinestones for the bats eyes - but didn't want to have to pay for a special tool or spend to much on them - the solution came in the form of iron on 'bling'. I found this multi-color bling sheet at one of the big craft supply stores, near the fabric paint.

The rhinestones stick to the clear acetate cover, to use them, you cut out the ones you want to use and place them on the fabric. It is the extra acetate that adheres them to the fabric, the extra acetate sticks to the fabric.
Next, turn the fabric inside out and iron the area where the rhinestones have been attached. Allow the fabric to cool, turn right-side out and remove acetate - your shirt is now 'blinged'!

 We had a great time making this craft - and our daughter loved wearing her very own fashion creation!
