If The Glasses Fit - Wear Em!

Money Saving Eye Wear for the Family
Back To School Savings

With my 11 year old son, back to school shopping basically entails me running around grabbing a few new shirts and pairs of pants for him and if we are lucky he'll grace us with his presence to pick out some new sneakers (although I have been informed the ones he has are 'just fine' and 'finally the way I like them').

However, with glasses - it's a whole different story.

Our son has more glasses than I did shoes when I was his age! He has a pair for sports, a pair for under helmets, a pair of sunglasses and 2 pairs of wire frames ( a replacement pair for a lost pair AND then the pair was found!).

Why so many? Well, we started adding to his eye wear collection as he got older (and grew) he also became more active - his sports activities ranged from karate to hockey and from BMX biking to skiing - and there didn't appear to be any 'silver bullet' or one solution that would fit under every helmet and would or wouldn't fog depending on the temperature. Finally it was time for contacts! He has been wearing contacts for a year now.

Just when I thought we were all set ... he wants some new glasses! This time it is all about the look - cool hipster style frames!

The budget is a little tight this year and we were not prepared for another big ticket purchase - then I saw a back to school flyer for Walmart and their vision center specials - We had to check it out.

He was thrilled with the selection of frames for young adults and I was thrilled with the prices.

Our son's glasses were not part of the $5 frame deal - but we did take advantage of the 20% discount for the second pair.
(Yes, another pair - this one is combined with safety lenses perfect for Archery!)

We purchased 2 complete pairs of glasses - both cool frames, with polycarbonate lenses and all the bells and whistles (UV, No-Glare, Thinner, Lighter, Impact Resistant, Flatter and Less Distortion along with Scratch-Resistant Coating)
Total $203 - Now that is a Mom's Lifesaver!

TIP - Walmart vision centers have dropped the cost of their basic frames from $9 to $5! Add lenses and you have a great 'back up pair' for under $40.

TIP - Walmart is also offering 20% off the second pair of glasses or 6-month supply of contacts - not just the same prescription either - it can be for you or another family member!
