Flattened Souvenir Penny BraceletYou can make it!
Souvenir Penny Bracelet - DIY! |
We love souvenir pennies! They are the most affordable souvenirs we have found in our travels and we love collecting them. Here is a simple way to take your souvenirs and make a keepsake 'penny charm' bracelet.
Here is what we used:
*Souvenir Pennies (of course)
*Crop-A-Dile (by Memory Makers) or Strong Hole Punch/Drill
*Copper Split Rings, Toggle Clasps & Chain (we got ours at Michael's Crafts $8 for all pieces)
*Needle Nose Pliers or Jewelry Making Tools - these help open the split rings!
* Hot Sauce - that's right - perfect for cleaning dirty pennies!
Give your pennies a bath in Hot Sauce if they need a little shining!
TIP - After soaking, rinse the pennies and give them a little scrub with an SOS pad - they will shine right up!
I prepared the chain next - taking a section that would fit comfortably around my wrist - approximately 7.5 inches. I then used the smaller split rings (6mm) to attach the toggle clasp.
TIP - I used split rings because they are easy to use - if you have ever put a key onto a key chain, you can use a split ring!
Time to make holes in your pennies.
The Crop-A-Dile from We R Memory Keepers is one of my most used scrapbooking tools. With 2 different sized hole punches and the ability to set eyelets this is one of my 'go to' tools. You can find them at your local craft supply store and online at Amazon here is the LINK.I used the smaller hole punch to punch the pennies - it was SO EASY - this punch goes through paper, cardboard, metal, leather and so much more!
Once you have your holes punched take a split ring (I used the 8mm rings - both the 6 & 8 mm rings were in the same package) and start threading them onto the chain.
TIP - Spacing doesn't have to be perfect - the pennies will lay every which way - the more variety the better!
This bracelet had a zoo theme - I used pennies from Zoos we had visited, York, Franklin Park, Cape May, Disney and more! Here is another idea - make one based on a family vacation or an entire summer!
