Ice Cream - Down River

Local Treat - Down River Ice Cream... and a trail.
Rowley, Massachusetts

Looking for a new ice cream place to sample? Why not head to Down River Ice Cream located on Rt1 South in Rowley, MA.

Our family - dog included - enjoyed a wonderful scoop there this week and were very happy with the experience.
First off we fell in love with the names - many have local meaning, Mill River and Hog Island - but the best was Greenhead!
For those of you who may have experienced these green biting flies that only seem to exist around here for a stint in the summer this ice cream flavor will give you a good laugh.

Down River even offers an ice cream made with your four legged friend in mind called Rosie's Treat and is vanilla ice cream and 2 dog biscuits.

Mine was the Mill River - huge pieces of Heath bar throughout - it was so yummy.
Here is the hidden gem though - hiding behind the ice cream stand is a simple mulched path with this sign:

Of course we had to go check it out!

Up the path a ways and there it was ... the staircase to no where - very cool.
This started all sorts of great what ifs and do you think conversations with my crew.

So the next time you are passing through why no stop, grab a bite and sit and relax for a bite - hopefully the greenheads won't be out!
