Spring Clean: Clothing Donation

"But It Won't Fit In My Drawers!"

Must be a change of seasons - we can tell at our home because the dresser drawers don't seem to be able to close!

Could it be that the dresser has put on its winter weight too?

Well, it's Spring and time to put away the winter things and make room for t-shirts, shorts, and swimwear - but where to put it?

If your children are growing at the same rate ours are - they won't fit in this year's winter clothes next - so we get out donation bin out and put it next to the laundry basket.  My co-author here at Mom's Lifesavers put one in each tweens closet.

Simple Basket To Collect Clothing Items to Donate
This way the kids have a place to put no longer fitting seasonal items - rather than cram them back in the dresser (if they get off the floor! LOL) or throw them in the laundry basket so they fall into an endless wash and dry cycle.

This also gives me the opportunity to look through things and separate them to see what can be handed down to friends and family and what can be donated to the local charities - don't forget your school nurse, too - ours is always looking to keep some basics on hand and it feels really good to help out our school friends.

The kids have been adding turtle necks, shirts, pajamas and pants this week - all ready for a new home!

The only person that has had some trouble with the system - my husband, who keeps putting his dirty clothes in there! Maybe I need a different color bin?

Have fun with it!

Do you have any suggestions for us?

  3. That is a great idea. I tend to do my spring cleaning along with my shopping. We cleaned out our closets this weekend and donated our old clothing on the way to Burlington Coat Factory. We found some really cute new outfits for the kids and they had a lot of fun trying things on. We ended up saving $200 on our shopping trip as well.
